Services And Support
YouLearn.ca - DL offers students and parents the resources, support and instructional assistance needed to plan and deliver a quality educational program reflective of individual needs, values and philosophies.
Students and parents have access to:
- ongoing communication between families and our staff, using a variety of modes such as home visits, telephone, email, and weekly newsletters highlighting events, accomplishments and new materials;
- support from a member of the BC College of Teachers to assist parents with instruction and evaluation of student work;
- three written student progress reports;
- options in methods of course delivery, such as paper-based or online, determined after consultation with YouLearn.ca - DL staff;
- planning, overseeing and evaluation of learning programs;
- workshops to support parents in their helping role;
- organized special events such as Christmas parties, field trips, Symphony concerts, etc.;
- academic counseling;
- adjudication of Distance Learning tests;
- individual and group tutorials;
- if requested, administration of assessments using standardized testing;
- on-site resource library for students and parents in Oliver and Osoyoos
- supplemental enrichment materials;
- liaison with local schools to ease student transition when requested;
- cultural events offered throughout School District #53;
- student counseling services (on request);
- telephone and in-home support from YouLearn.ca - DL staff;
- computer and internet access when required.
In addition to the experienced staff, YouLearn.ca - DL offers a wide choice of government approved learning resources including: novels, text books, workbooks, correspondence courses, interactive Cds, internet-based lessons and tutorials, and visual materials.
Distributed Learning technologies are developing quickly. YouLearn.ca - DL constantly explores and integrates innovative services and products as they become available.
YouLearn.ca - DL families have access to the resources and programs already available in School District #53 (Okanagan-Similkameen) including specialty classes (Band, Home Economics, Technical Education, etc.) and three branches of our Continuing Education Schools where high school students will benefit from the expertise of qualified teachers.
The role of the parent and degree of district involvement will vary in each program, and reflect the educational goals selected by the parent.
