Course Information
Outreach provides options for families who prefer to have their children educated at home, or who require time tabling flexibility.
Our programs (K-12) meet the requirements of the BC curriculum and prepare students well for transition to regular schools, colleges, universities, jobs and productive roles in society.
All Outreach students are invited and encouraged to participate in sponsored activities and scheduled lessons designed to enhance learning in the home. Classes include instruction in: French, Art, Technology, and various other activities depending on the interest and needs of the students. Other activities offered include swimming lessons, skating, skiing, seasonal arts and crafts, and field trips.
Outreach offers three options...
Although we offer three distinct options, we are willing to individualize programs to meet the needs of the student.
Option 1 - Distributed Learning (Kindergarten - Grade 12)
This option allows student from Kindergarten through grade 12 to learn at their own pace at home with a parent facilitating the learning.
In this option, a teacher from Outreach will plan, oversee, and evaluate the student’s learning plan; the parents and/or guardians will implement the plan and support the student in successfully completing his/her educational program. The plan includes brief descriptions of subjects, approximate timelines, instructional methods and resources that will be used. Assignments are submitted on an ongoing basis in order for the Outreach teacher to complete the assessment and evaluation of the work.
The school district provides copies of approved learning resources (textbooks, applicable workbooks and online materials where appropriate). The use of a computer and internet services are available if needed.
Option 2 - Blended Learning Program (Grades 6 - 12)
This option is similar to Option 1, with a notable difference being that students in the Blended Learning Program are able to complete some of their educational courses at one of the schools in the district.
Outreach students wishing to access any courses in the district’s schools should make their requests to the Outreach staff as early as possible to ensure that the requests can be honoured.
Option 3 - Stand-alone Distributed Learning (Grades 10 - 12)
Secondary students have the same options available to them as all students in our Distributed Learning program, but they also have greater flexibility. Students in grades 10 through 12 have the option of enrolling full-time at a district high school, and taking one or more courses through our distributed learning program.
